Being a Counselor at Grace
Anyone wishing to counsel at Grace is required to become ACBC certified, but we also have a few additional requirements as well. Below is the process that all who counsel at Grace are required to go through. Please note that there isn’t a strict order to follow to complete these steps.
1. Community
All people considering the ministry of counseling must be in a community group. We require all counselors to be in Biblical community because it is an essential part of the mature believer’s walk.
2. Counseling Education
As part of the ACBC requirements aspiring counselors must complete the following non-classroom based education:
- Reading 300 pages of theology text
- Reading 700 pages of counseling text
- Writing the essay-style counseling exam
- Watching 10 hours of observation videos
3. Classwork
As part of the ACBC requirement, all counselors are required to attend Track One of the Biblical Counseling Training Conference. In addition to this Grace, counselors are required to take the Thrive class, Soul Care.
4. Approval
As part of the ACBC requirement, when a counselor has passed their test they will find an ACBC supervisor and complete 50 hours of supervised counseling. In addition to this, all counselors must be approved by the Elder Team.
