Reading Your Bible

What is the Bible?

The Bible is a collection of 66 books that were written by God through the lens of human authors, but they tell one story: who God is, the great lengths He has gone to lovingly redeem us from our sin and the way in which He wants us to live to glorify Him.

This central story of the Bible is timeless in nature, giving deep meaning to people across time, culture and space. The Bible is also timely. For every situation, there is guidance within the Bible, sometimes direct and sometimes in principle.

Why is the Bible Important?

The Bible is important because God doesn’t just want you to obey Him, He desires a relationship with you. You can’t have a close relationship with someone you never talk to. Reading the Bible is how He speaks to those who seek Him. Praying is how we speak back.

Reading the Bible is a very important part of having a relationship with God. The Bible is the very best way to discover how to follow Jesus on a daily basis.

How do you even begin to read it?

If you’ve never read the Bible before, or have only heard it read in church, we recommend starting with the Gospel of John. The book of John was written that its readers might believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God and that by believing in Him, the reader may have life in His name. It’s the perfect book to start with.

We’ve provided more resources below to help you read the Bible effectively. In addition to those resources, we also encourage you to attend a weekly worship service to hear God’s Word taught by our pastors. Finally, we encourage all believers, new and old, to join a community group where deeper discussions of God’s Word can take place at a personal level.
