Downtown Pastors
Downtown Iowa City
The Downtown Church in Iowa City began in August 2013. We decided to plant this church because the drive to the North Liberty Campus was one obstacle we wanted to remove between students and a meaningful connection with the One True God. God overcame and eliminated many obstacles so that we could become His children and we choose to do overcome on obstacle for the students, faculty, and staff on the University of Iowa Campus.
A historic location
Built in 1858, Old Brick is the second oldest building in Iowa City. Built and used as North Presbyterian Church, it is one of the few surviving local structures dating from the Civil War or earlier. Old Brick stands tall as a historic treasure and has been described as Iowa City's "crown jewel of historic preservation". Grace Community Church is honored to be one of the several organizations that are welcomed to gather the members of the modern Iowa City community in a truly historic location.
Kids

Child Wellness Policy
For health standards, children must be free from fever or symptoms of a contagious disease for 24 hours. Here are some signs of illness...
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Rash
- A runny nose
- Fever in the past 24 hours
- A persistent or hacking cough
Check-Ins
Check-in begins 10 minutes before each service starts. If you’re a first-time guest you will need to fill out a registration card to check your children for our kids classes and receive security stickers. The stickers serve two purposes:
- Parent Paging - If we need you during service, we'll come up and retrieve you in the back of the sanctuary.
- Child Pick-up - You must present your portion of the sticker before we release your child.
Downtown Kids
Our goal in Children's Ministry is to point kids to Jesus as we partner with parents to disciple the next generation. This is achieved on Sundays through worship, prayer and Bible reading. Our nursery and preschool classes are led by trained volunteers who have been carefully screened.
Our volunteers are required to be trained and screened. Let us know of any allergies or medical conditions your child may have.
Baby Dedication
The word “dedicate” means to set aside or commit to a sacred purpose. Baby dedications are celebrations of the birth or adoption of a child and allow parents to commit themselves publicly to raise their child in the nurture and love of the Lord. We require parents to attend our Baby Dedication Class, but only once.
- Register for a Baby Dedication Class
- Hand in Hand by Cindy Sulwer. A guide to raising up your young child knowing God, praying, and learning about Him together.
Schedule
At the Downtown campus, we offer nursery and pre-k classes year round.
Adults
Community Groups

We believe that our faith is a lifestyle, not an event. We meet throughout
the week in community groups to encourage and build one another up to love and good deeds.
Thrive Classes
Thrive is Grace’s set of classes that are designed and planned to equip the adults of our church to bring in, build up and branch out for the glory of God.
We hold Thrive classes in two semesters beginning each September and January. Thrive classes are a great way to meet others in Grace that are heading the same way, get training and be built up in maturity for Christ.
