Guatemala Short-term Missions trip
July 21-28, 2025
Wednesday, July 23 | 2nd Foundation
Today the team headed to our second build site to lay the foundation. We were able to turn a lot filled with piles of scrap and tree branches into a concrete slab ready for the house. We were encouraged and blessed to work along side family members who jumped in to improve the space. Although it has only been a few days, the team has quickly bonded and formed new relationships. There are even several new nicknames flying around- you can ask Zack Stanton about that. God's perfect timing was evident today as a large storm rolled in. We finished the concrete, got it covered, and loaded everyone into the vehicle and immediately the rain started. We drove home through an impressive display of lightening- all God's handiwork.
The home visit teams were also at work. They played with children, distributed food, and heard amazing stories of faith in adversity. One that really impacted us was a woman with a severely disabled son. Doctors told her he would only live for five years max and today he is 22 years old. She holds him all day as he struggles to breathe if he is in the wrong position. He is nonverbal and requires constant care. Her love for him was evident as she explained how he is so special and made in the image of God. She considers it a blessing that she has had the joy of caring for him for 22 years.
Tomorrow we will be switching gears a bit and it will be our wheelchair distribution day. One of our team members pointed out this evening that we are a bit of a rag tag group to be setting out doing the things we are doing this week. Pray that God equips and uses us and that we carry out His will in His strength. God bless!
