How Do I Start to Counsel?

All of our counselors start their first sessions with a bit of backup. We have three primary methods of helping counselors get started...

  • Observation Observing a real-time counseling session can break down barriers for an upcoming counselor.
  • Advocacy By being an advocate first, counselors partake in hands-on observation in a counseling case.
  • Co-counseling An experienced counselor will begin a case with you and you will team counsel the case. If there comes a point mid-case when your counseling partner and you believe you are ready to go solo, they will bow out, but always be available for questions.
  • Coached Counseling Before and after each session of your first case you will meet and plan with an experienced counselor and they will coach you through the process.

How Do I Start to Counsel?

Observing Counseling

Many people who have received biblical counseling training are left wondering how the rubber meets the road in counseling. If you’re wondering how these dots connect in the counseling room, you might consider observing a real-life counseling session. This is for those who have received counseling training and want to see what this looks like by sitting in on a counseling session with one of Grace’s Certified Biblical Counselors.

Counseling in Practice

Grace offers “coached counseling” for those who are just getting their feet wet and are ready to be trained in real-time as they counsel. Coached counseling gives you the chance to practice counseling skills in an environment of support, equipping and contact with a certified counselor.
